MacAlpine’s Soda Fountain is located on the up and coming 7th Street, however MacAlpine’s is a veteran, opening it’s doors in 1929. Pleasing Arizonians and visitors for 85 years. Wow!
As you walk up to MacAlpine’s your eye is drawn to the large glass storefront window and vintage furniture lining the walkway, giving you a hint of the journey you are about to embark on, a step back to a simpler time.
As you swing open the door to begin your journey you are welcomed by an artful display of collections of the past from rolling pins, measuring spoons, glass soda bottles and so much more.
As you continue through the shop to the Old Fashioned Soda shop you are pleasently surprised when you are greeted by the friendly staff member wearing their 50’s inspired attire (gents in bow-ties and ladies in pink shirts). Then you take your seat either on a vintage barstool, booth or table flanked with layers of antiques. Next up you will find yourself studying the menu ( I do mean studying) transfixed by what feels like a thousand ice cream combinations. You will some how narrow it down to one and order a sweet treat. If you are not in a sweet treat kind of mood (umm, who are you? and where did you come from???) you may be tempted by one of the other menu items, perhaps the egg salad or pulled pork sandwich.
After you have partaken in the old fashioned deliciousness you will have yet another opportunity to visit the past as you take a stroll through the adjoining antique shop, dotting with furs, pearls, belts, ties, shoes and anything your vintage heart desires.
I am so happy I discovered MacAlpine’s! If you have not yet, you must go! It’s perfect for quick date night mid-afternoon treat with the kiddos. I would recommend ditching the stroller the floor space is limited and keeping a close eye on any fast moving toddlers.
