The Banner Shoppe with Emily

This week we will be featuring small businesses owned and operated by moms. Being a mom is tough. Owning a small business is tricky. Finding a way to balance both is pure magic. We have asked some of our favorite moms/small business owners to share a glimpse of their experience. Don’t forget to head over to this post for a chance to win a free pair of Freshly Picked moccasins.

The Banner Shoppe

We introduced you to Emily from The Banner Shoppe before and since then her business has been booming. We decided to bring her back to learn a bit more from her and her small business expertise.

The Banner Shoppe

When did you officially open your shop for business?
I have been making banners for friends and local craft markets for about 5 years now.  I had always thought about opening up an online store, so in January of this year, I finally took the plunge and did it!

If you could describe your experience in three words, which words would you choose?
Inspiring, hectic, and fulfilling all at the same time.

What is the most surprising lesson you have learned?
When you work together with other shops and blogs, you’ll grow so much faster than on your own.  It’s natural to think every other shop is your competition.  Not true.  There are plenty of customers to go around, and every shop is a little different.  It’s really best to be a team player!

What is the one thing you hope your kids learn from your business venture?
That we work hard as a family and we can create new things.  Like me, there are so many stay-at-home moms who are producers and are creating added value in their communities and for their families.
Thanks Emily for finishing up our week of small business owner moms. Your kids are so lucky to have you and your banners and party decor are way too fun. Be sure to head on over to Emily’s shop for all your party needs!
